Tuition is the cost of attendance which a student must pay in order to enroll. Tuition always corresponds to a single academic year. To this tuition fee, an enrollment fee is also added. This fee is the value due for academic participation, and should be paid in its entirety at the moment of request. It is not reimbursable.

Tuition: The tuition is linked to registration/enrollment, and not course attendance. This means that a student enrolled in stand-alone curricular units, a non-degree-conferring program, or undergraduate, master’s, or doctorate program who stops attending classes must still pay their respective tuition.

Disengagement from this payment only occurs when a formal withdrawal request is made, which has to be accepted following the duly outlined terms, under the penalty of cancellation. Students who default must pay not only the tuition cost, but also the interest upon this tuition cost.

Tuition by enrollment type:

• Full-time: total tuition cost can be paid at one time or in 9 seperate payments.
• Part-time: 60% of the full-time tuition.

Means of payment:

• National or equivalent students (EU/EEA): in one go with 2% deduction or in 9 separate payments (to activate the 2% deduction, students must select all the installmentswithin five days of the registration or enrollment date).
• International students: in one go, according to the international student regulation; by internal decision, it is now also possible to submit a requirement in Fénix+ and request the phasing of the tuition fee (50% in the registration + the remaining in 3 installments).

Fees: Other charges and fees must be paid in their entirety upon the moment of request, and cannot be reimbursed. No follow-up for a requirement or process will be given until the administrative services have proof of payment of the respective charge or fee.

Tuition should always be paid by a multi-bank reference within the stipulated deadlines. Information on how to do so is available on the personal student page on FÉNIX.

This payment should be made through the homebanking service (which permits students to make this payment from abroad) or from any multi-bank machine in Portugal. To do so, students need only select the "Payment" option and introduce the respective “Entity”, “Reference MB” and “Amount”.

The receipt issued by the ATM should always be saved as proof of payment.

Exceptions: In exceptional cases due to an inability to pay by multibank, students should liaise with the academic services or the treasury services.

Always save the issued receipt or any other supporting documents as proof of payment for the treasury.

Students that do not pay the tuition by the deadlines established must pay not only the lacking amount, but also the additional amount determined by the respective interest rates. The interest amount, by law, is always determined by all the unpaid tuition. Iscte is a public higher education institution, and therefore failure to pay tuition assigns a debt to the State onto the student.

• The nullification of all the academic actions undertaken in the academic year to which the default pertains;
• The suspension of registration and annual enrollment, with the removal of the right to social support in the academic year in which the default occurred, until the debt as well as the respective interest is paid;
• The hindrance of issue of certificates and other documents;
• The loss of a spot, in the case of students who enroll for the first time in a master’s, PhD, or post-graduate programme, and do not fulfill the first tuition payment before the stipulated deadline. In these cases, the vacancy is assigned to the following candidate on the waitlist.

Other charges and fees are to be paid upon request to Academic Services, and are not reimbursable. No follow-up for a requirement or process will be given until the administrative services have proof of payment of the respective charge or fee.
